Houston Livestocl Show Updates



The Houston Livestock Show announces the addition of a new breed of market lambs and two new contests for the 2015 Show, March 3 - 22.  The new show and contests are as follows:
Dorper Market Lambs
Dorper wether lambs will be added as a new breed of sheep in the Junior Market Lamb Show. Two classes of Dorper lambs will be shown and the top six placing lambs from each class will qualify for auction, for a total of 12 dorper lambs sold. The addition of Dorper market lambs will increase the number of lamb auction lots to 324. The Junior Market Lamb Show will take place March 11 - 13, 2015, with Dorpers showing March 12. The Judge for the show will be Kelley Bruns of Brookings, South Dakota.

Additions to Judging Contest
  • Food Challenge Contest: The Food Challenge Contest will closely follow the format set in place for the State 4-H Roundup contest. Competition will be available in junior and senior divisions consisting of teams of three to five contestants.  The contest will take place Tuesday, March 10, in the East Arena of NRG Center.
  • Vet Science Skillathon: The Vet Science Skillathon will be patterned after the state 4-H and FFA contests. Contestants will compete on an individual basis in junior and senior divisions. The contest will take place Tuesday, March 17, in the NRG Center. The awards will be held in conjunction with the Veterinary School Seminar in the Tractor Supply Co. Main Arena of NRG Center.
