Hunting and Wildlife Leader Trainings

Registration for the 2014 Hunting & Wildlife Leader/Coach Trainings will open on 4-H Connect Thursday!

4-H Hunting & Wildlife is a 4-H Shooting Sports discipline and much more. During the 4-H Shooting Sports State Games each summer, youth can register to participate in this discipline that offers live firing events as well as interactive events that challenge the knowledge and skills of the contestant. The live firing events are designed to simulate as closely as possible the type of shooting one would do in a hunting field rather than on a shooting range.

One design of this training is to prepare an adult leader to coach youth in the Hunting & Wildlife Shooting Sports discipline and certify them to train their youth to safely and responsibly use the four firearms (shotgun, smallbore rifle, muzzle loading rifle, and bow) in live firing situations. The training is also designed for any Adult Volunteer Leader wishing to work with their local youth in a hunting or wildlife project or a combination of the two.

Any actively enrolled Adult Volunteer Leader, Extension employee, or senior 4-H youth is eligible for this training. Actively enrolled youth who have reached age 14 by September 1 of the current 4-H year may participate in a training as an Assistant Coach/Leader Candidate. Please Note: to be eligible to become a fully Certified Coach in the Hunting & Wildlife Shooting Sports discipline, you must be minimum 21 years of age or older.

Detailed information will be available soon via the Texas 4-H Natural Resources website and blog.

COUNTY EXTENSION AGENT LOSES HOUSE AND BELONGINGS IN FIRE

Dear Texas 4-H Families:
Ashley Piercy, FCS Agent from Scurry County, was awakened to a fire in her apartment complex early Tuesday morning. She was able to get out with her dog, cell phone and Extension calendar. She has not been allowed back into her apartment (for safety reasons) so has not been able to determine what all she has lost. The apartment complex has a furnished apartment for her to move into for the time being.

Ashley has been an awesome employee of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and and asset to the District 2 4-H program for the past several years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ashley.

If you would like to help Ashely, there are a couple of options.

A relief fund has been established for Ashley at:
Ashley Piercy Fire Relief Fund
Prosperity Bank
3610 College Avenue
Snyder, TX 79549
Acct.# 213610461

Additionally, The Texas 4-H Foundation has set up an online donation at:
Please share this with any families and friends that you feel would want to assist Ashely during this horrible loss. More than anything, please keep Ashley your prayers.

We have a 4-H family that will be traveling that direction this next week so if you have anything you would like to donate, please send items to the county extension office.

Leadership Live - December 16th

4-H Leadership LIVE gives youth, adult volunteers, parents, and County Extension Agents the opportunity to learn about leadership from those that lead in the organizations they serve.  This is a virtual event, so in order to participate, simply go to the following link next Monday, December 16th at 7:00 pm: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/texas-4-h.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn from Dr. Doug Steele, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Director, and Ms. Sarah Hamm, former 4-Her and State 4-H Council Officer, about their leadership perspective and how they apply leadership. The evening will conclude with the opportunity to hear from current State 4-H Council members about the leadership lessons they have learned and are applying as a result of participating in the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program.
