Texas 4-H STEM Ambassadors

*This is being presented to 150+ youth participants from Japan, Taiwan and South Korea with some additional 4-H U.S. youth.  I'm working with Dr. Darlene Locke (Texas A&M Recreation Park & Tourism Sciences Assistant Professor & Extension Specialist), Wise County and our Texas 4-H STEM Ambassadors, for a virtual camp session being presented through the States' 4-H International program.  I'm looking for at least 10-20 youth (or more) to come represent 4-H from Texas and also represent the U.S. This program has been developed (4 virtual camp sessions) in place of the actual 4-H Global Exchange program that happens in the summer-time with youth coming to the U.S. and experiencing our culture and U.S. 4-H youth going to another country and a family hosts them for their stay. Due to Covid-19, this is not happening this year.  The volunteers would be a part of celebrating the virtual session 3, which is "July 4th and How, What and Why We Celebrate It."

4-H Public Speaking Camp!

This past week, Travis and Bastrop County 4-Hers participated in a 4-H Public Speaking Camp. This camp was a 3-day Youth Leadership Program facilitated by Toastmaster and 4-H volunteer, Margaret Cathey. By participating, 4-Hers learned to deliver great presentations, give and receive constructive evaluations, be able to speak off the cuff, and learned to be a better listener.

It was truly unbelievable to see their progress, and the confidence they gained in just three short days.

Margaret, we are so thankful for the giving of your time and experience! And we are beyond proud of all of our participants!

Travis County 4-Hers include:

- Anna Laura Whitaker
- Clare Whitaker
- Luke Whitaker
- David Higgins
- Noah Higgins
- Olivia Higgins
- Sarah Shaw

The Darden -Caldwell LeadHERship Series for Girls: 2021 Summer Camp

 Greetings !

The Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center at Prairie View A&M University is sponsoring the inaugural series of The Darden-Caldwell LeadHERship Series for Girls: 2021 Summer Camp named in honor of its alum, Ms. Phyllis Darden-Caldwell.  This one-day virtual conference is solely dedicated to girls in grades 9th – 12th and their parents or guardians.    A cadre of dynamic, diverse, competent, exciting, passionate and engaging speakers will talk and generate audience interaction on Leadership, Academics, Social Justice, Health & Wellness and Advocacy.  This series includes concurrent breakout sessions specifically designed for our student attendees, parent/guardian attendees and joint sessions for both.

The Series begins promptly on Saturday, August 7th, at 9:30 am and ends at 3:00 pm.  We want the girls attending this series to leave believing their lives are filled with possibilities and understand that success is about overcoming obstacles, setting and achieving goals as well as accepting seemingly insurmountable challenges.  And for our parents or guardians; we want them to be empowered with knowledge and resources to effectively engage in their daughters’ epic journey of life.

To register, please click this link.  Registration deadline is July 26th, 2021.
