GEAR
Robotics Participation Registration is Now Open!
Welcome to the 2017-2018 TTU GEAR Robotics tournament season. We
have an exciting season ahead of us. Dr. Karp is back from South Africa and we
are delighted to have her back at the helm. Exciting additions have been made
this season to help accommodate your scheduling and travel needs. This year, in
addition to tournament sites being held at Texas Tech University and Midland,
there will be an additional tournament site hosted by Frenship ISD in
Wolfforth, Texas. We also offer a Virtual GEAR competition, in case you don’t
want to travel at all or have teams that cannot make any of the tournament dates. To find out more about Virtual GEAR,

To participate in GEAR 2018, you must register your teams at https://goo.gl/forms/21r7v4lunmiMYBlo1.
Registration closes December 22, 2017. Through this registration
you inform us that you will be participating in GEAR this year and indicate
which tournament site you will be attending. You may select only one.
(In addition, you may register 2 Virtual GEAR teams on the Virtual GEAR website
mentioned above). The information you provide will help us plan this year’s
activities and make preparations. THIS IS NOT YOUR GAME DAY REGISTRATION. The
Game Day registration will be sent out at a later time.
Site Locations:
You may select the site that best accommodates your travel and
scheduling needs, but each site will have limited registration space available.
We strongly recommend that you choose the tournament site closest to you.
Each team must have a minimum of 3 students per team. A
school/robotics program can participate with a maximum of 8 teams. We
need the estimated number of participating teams for planning purpose only. You
will have to confirm the exact number of teams participating in game day later.
Trial
Run and Game Day Tournament Site Dates:
TTU will be hosting a joint kickoff event for all
participants on the TTU campus on February 10, 2018. Winning teams from
all three locations will qualify for playoffs at TTU in Lubbock.

MasterChef Junior - Casting call
My name is Jenn and I'm an Associate Casting
Producer for MasterChef Junior, the national FOX hit cooking competition series
where children aged 8 to 13 years old compete for the coveted title of
MasterChef Junior!
I am writing you because we are going to be
in San Antonio on Saturday, December 16th looking for kids who love to cook and
want to try out for this fun lighthearted show! I was hoping to get the word out to the members of your association to see if any of
their kids would be interested!
The casting call is a total blast for all the
kids who try out and everyone leaves with a huge smile, feeling like a winner!
I have to tell kids not to be intimidated by
the skill level they see on our show because no one walks into our open casting
call cooking like a MasterChef. We are looking for passion and the potential to
learn and blossom into the MasterChef inside each and every one of them!
If you wouldn't mind sharing the attached
casting flyer on your social media, listserv, or just getting it out to people
you know who may be interested by passing this email or my info to any parents
of a budding young chef. We are just trying to spread the word as best we can so that the San
Antonio area is properly represented. We highly recommend those who are
planning on attending to pre-register on our website at masterchefjuniorcasting.com! This
allows a producer to call a week prior to remind about the casting call as well
as answer any questions they may have.

Quality Counts - Livestock Exhibitors
As a reminder, If you are one of our first time livestock exhibitors entering in a Major Livestock Show (Major Livestock Shows are: Houston Livestock Show, Rodeo Austin Livestock Show, San Antonio Livestock Show, Fort Worth, San Angelo, etc.) You will need a Quality Counts number. This is required for both breeding and market animals. This needs to be completed by Tuesday, November 28th, 2017.
Exhibitors only need to be verified once as a junior and once again as a senior. Juniors are anyone who is 8 years old and in the 3rd grade through 13 years of age as of the previous August 31st. Seniors are anyone who is 14 years or older as of the previous August 31st. Anyone showing in a Major Livestock Show that has turned 14 before August 31, 2017 is required to get the Senior Level quality counts number. Exhibitors only need to be verified once as a junior and once again as a senior.
To get your Quality Counts certificate, you must go to http://qualitycounts.tamu.edu/ to access the on line teaching system "Texas Trails". This curriculum will take 2 hours to complete and can be done at more than one sitting. Go to "Verification" (tab at the top of the Quality Counts page)and click "Take The Test" at the top of the page. After you have completed the test it will give you a verification number.
If you have already turned in your livestock entries to the Extension Office, please send us an email letting us know you have completed the verification and we will add the number to your entry. Please let us know if you have any questions!
2018 TCYS Updates: Contests & Baked Goods Reminders

- Entry deadline for 4-H members is Wednesday, November 22nd, (historically the County Offices close early on this day)
- Entries will not be accepted the day of the contests this year – they must all be entered online
- For Food Challenge – the team entry is $30, please have each team member and parent sign the entry form; instead of age put their grades; contact information needs to be the team coach’s information.
- For CDM – I have asked TCYS if we can push back that time to allow more youth to participate, but that space is being used the rest of the evening. I’ll let you know if we can work something out since we have it currently scheduled as the Qualifying County Contest for District.
Baked Good Recipe Submissions are due online November 29th
by 4:59 PM
- Division A (Baked Goods only) Recipe(s) must be submitted electronically at www.traviscountyyouthshow.org/youthfair
- Please Remember: Your FULL recipe should be submitted in one entry. Example: Pie crust and filling or Cake, filling, and icing.
- Submissions must include exhibitor's name, phone number, and email address in order to receive approval or disqualification of recipe.
- Recipes will be reviewed by the Recipe Review Committee and exhibitors will receive an email letting them know if they are approved or disqualified. If a recipe is disqualified, exhibitor will have 5 business days to resubmit a recipe for approval after notification (Recipe may only be re-submitted once, if disqualified.)
- Official approved recipes will have a TCYS watermark on it. Please print out this attachment, with the watermark to bring to check-in. Entries without this watermark will not be accepted and TCYS will not resend recipes after December 15, 2018.
2017 Major Swine Validation Reminder
This is a reminder that 2017 Major Swine Validation will take place this weekend, November 18-19, 2017. All 4-H'ers who ordered tags should have received an email with the schedule & instructions.

4-H Teen Retreat
Registration has opened for Teen
Retreat, January 5-7, 2018. 4-H youth currently in 8th through 12th grade can register
to attend. Agents, specialist, and former summer staff will lead educational
sessions covering the topics of; Survival Guide to Turning 18, Leadership in
Community Service, Team Building, and 4-H Advocacy.
