D-8 Shooting sports Coach Training




We’re pleased to announce that District 8 4-H will be hosting a Shooting Sports Coach Certification Training for Archery, Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun in Stephenville on November 14-15, 2015.

This training is open to any potential coaches across the state.
  • Registration will be conducted through 4‐H Connect.
  • Look for 2015 D8 4-H Shooting Sports Coach Certification Training – Stephenville
  • Registration is now open and closes October 30, 2015.
  • Please pay close attention to the deadline!
  • Cost is $120

Participants MUST have completed and passed the Background Check PRIOR to registering for the event, so if they have not completed this, they should do so IMMEDIATELY! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Additional details:
  • Registration will cover meals and course materials.
  • Only one discipline certification (archery, pistol, rifle, or shotgun) is obtainable per participant per training.
  • Lodging will not be provided for registrants.
  • Event will begin at 8:00am on Saturday, November 14 and tentatively end at noon on Sunday, November 15, 2015.
  • Tentative schedule, what to bring list, and release forms can be found on the website. Additional details will be sent to those that register.

Lonestar Cattlemen Soiree - October 16th




We are excited about the 2015 Lonestar Cattlemen Soiree which will be held Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Travis County Expo Center. The Lonestar Cattlemen Foundation is a buyer’s group which supports our most precious resource – Young Texans!!

Because of your participation and generosity, it enables us the privilege of being one of the Top Buyers at various county and state youth auctions. To date, we have been blessed to contribute over $1,400,000 towards hundreds of 4-H and FFA student’s projects across the state. The Soiree is our largest fundraiser and social event of the year.

4-H Robotics Project Updates



Texas 4-H Robotics Advisory Committee
Applications for new youth and adult committee members are now open and will close on October 15.  Eligibility and other details can be found in the attached document.  Below are the links for youth and adult applications.  Youth (not adults) are required to have a non-parent/guardian adult complete the Adult Recommendation Form.





Major Stock Shows
San Antonio and San Angelo stock shows are each planning to host their first robotics competitions in 2016.

2016 Roundup
Plans are underway to have an invitational robotics contest at Texas 4-H Roundup in 2016.  Rules and additional details will be released this fall.  Stay tuned.


FREE Online Robotics Course for Beginners
Sign up now for our free online course that will start in October.  No prior robotics experience required.  A flyer has been attached to share with interested parties.  Module lesson titles include:
o   Sort and Build
o   Driving School
o   Stay in Touch
o   Eyes of the Robot
o   Design Like an Engineer
o   Helping Hand
o   How Far, How Fast

The course is designed for beginner leaders to go through the course with their students and robot kits.  Requirements for taking the course include at least:
o   1 adult volunteer
o   Youth 4-H members
o   1 Lego Mindstorm NXT or EV3 (preferred) kit

Attention Graduating Seniors:

County Council - Be a part of the team!

Any Travis County 4-H member may attend and participate in the County Council Meetings. This year, a new component is being added. To be part of this group, youth must complete the application a the link below. This will provide us with the contact information that is needed to keep everyone who wants to part of it in the loop. This is a great way to meet other youth around the county and learn more about the 4-H program and the opportunities that are available.

NAMI Walk - Saturday, September 26th

Each year, Travis County 4-H volunteers to provide the dog watering stations for the walkers/runners who like to bring their pets out to the NAMI Walk.  It is always greatly appreciated by the event organizers and dog owners.
