Howdy 4-H'ers!
The Travis County 4-H Council is inviting all interested 4-H'ers to attend our upcoming meeting.  Anyone who was elected to serve as a council delegate for your club is encouraged to attend. We will host a special guest speaker from the Travis County Attorney's Office.He will be speaking about the Travis County Underage Drinking and Prevention Education Program. Ticket prices:  $20 Box Seats, $10 General Admission

 

Chute Club Tickets:  Upstairs will be open before the event and after the event.  There is a full cash bar, music and food available for purchase  It’s where the party will be but there are only a few passes available!  Chute Club passes will not get you downstairs to watch the event.  $15 per person.  To purchase these tickets email Lynn Dell at Lynndell@heilp.com

 

Notes:  Box seats are reserved seating closer to the ground.  General admission is open seating in the bleachers.  Additional fees will be applied to tickets purchased the day of the event.  There are no parking fees in the designated parking areas.  Chute Club passes will not be available at the door.

Creedmoor Fall Fest

Creedmoor 4-H is looking for volunteers to assist with the October 15^th Creedmoor Fall Fest.

This is an opportunity for anyone wanting community service hours etc. to help man a booth promoting information of Texas 4-H programs, Travis County. If you are interested in helping, please contact Joan Wilhite at wilcreed82@yahoo.com 

Consumer Decision Making Project

Through the 4-H Consumer Education Project, 4-H members learn to make wise decisions when shopping. Project activities also focus on the economy, money management, consumer rights and responsibilities, and the environment. Consumer Education Projects are usually conducted during the winter and summer months of the 4-H year, based on the availability of project leaders. The term of the project greatly depends upon when contests, such as the Consumer Decision Making Contest, are conducted. 4-H members interested in the Consumer Education Project should be willing to commit the appropriate amount of time to it, depending on their level of involvement. This includes project meetings and other learning experiences. There is a D-10 Contest that will be held in conjunction with the contest held at the San Antonio Livestock Show on February 18, 2012. For those interested an informational will be held on October 20, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office.

This is a great contest that provides some essential life skills. Hope to see you on the 20th.

Foods/Healthy Lifestyles Workshop

For those interested in the food and nutrition and/or healthy lifestyles projects, a workshop is being conducted on Monday, October 10, 2011. 9:00 a.m. at the Travis County Extension Office. Check out the flyer below. Topics to be covered include; food show, food challenge, nutrition quiz bowl and healthy lifestyles project.

New Recordbook Keeping System Workshop

Recordbooks have changed for the 2011-2012 4-H year! The District 10 4-H Program is hosting a Recordbook Workshop at the Hays County Extension Office located at 1253 Civic Center Loop in San Marcos on November 1^st at 6:30pm. The program is open to all counties. If you want to get a jump start and find out about the new recordkeeping system and preview what they will look like please attend! You are welcome to bring a laptop if you have one.

Dairy Goats Need a New Home

Three male goats born April 11, 2011; Half Nubian and half Alpine, these dairy goats are ready for a new home, no cost.  They have been de-horned but have a couple of small scars.  They have not yet been castrated.  If interested, please contact jgrigsby@austin.rr.com.

This meeting's theme is tailgating so wear a favorite t-shirt supporting your favorite team and bring a snack to share.

Food Show Information

For those involved in the Foods and Nutrition Project, the county food show information has been posted to the website at www.travis4h.com. Information may be found under the "Forms" page. This year, the food show will be conducted on a Wednesday afternoon/evening to hopefully avoid a bulk of other school activities that are on the weekends.

Volunteers Needed for Cat Show

The Austin Cat Fanciers Annual Championship Cat and Household Pet Cat Show, Oct 8-9, 2011 is being held at the Palmer Events Center.  Ring Stewards are needed for the show.  6 Stewards each day. The preferred Steward age is 12 years and older.  Each Steward receives $15 and a free lunch each day.  They assist the Ring Clerk and Judge with cleaning the Ring cages and managing the placement of Cat Number cards between classes of cats being judged.

Exhibitors bring their show kittens and cats to the Show from all over the USA and other countries.  Our Judges are also from various states in the USA and sometimes from other countries as well.
