TCYS Annual Meeting - May 1st


The TCYS Annual Membership Meeting will be held on Wednesday May 1, 2013 at the James Bowie High School Cafeteria ( 4103 West Slaughter Lane ) beginning at 6:30. There will be a BBQ meal including Brisket, Chicken and Sausage and sides served to all members. (Non-Members may purchase said meal for $15.00). Memberships may be purchased at the meeting.

Texas 4-H Roping School



On June 16-20, 2013, the Statewide Texas 4-H Calf Roping and Break-A-Way School will be held in Stephenville, Texas.  The school will be held at the Tarleton State University Equine Arena.   This event has been developed in order to encourage young people in 4-H to develop leadership skills and to exercise their abilities in working with younger members in roping activities in 4-H.    Participation is open to all districts of the state, with applications being accepted on a first-come, first- serve basis with first priority to those boys and girls who are 12 years of age and older.  

The cost of the school will be $380.00 for the week. There is a limited number of indoor stalls.  Therefore, a maximum of one horse per applicant. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the Roping School.

2013 District 10 4-H Leadership Lab

Hey 4-Hers! This year, go AROUND THE WORLD  with 4-H at District 10 Leadership Lab!
Leadership Lab will be at the Texas 4-H Conference Center in Brownwood! Registration will be on 4-H Connect from May 1st to the 31st, and there will NO late registration. So pack your bags, grab your passport and get ready to take a trip around the world with 4-H!

Who: 4-H members who at 13 years old by June 24th and have not graduated.
When:  JUNE 24-26, 2013
Where:  Texas 4-H Center (Brownwood)
Cost: $200 for kids. This expense will cover all meals, room, t-shirt and fees. This fee, does NOT cover transportation, so be sure to coordinate with your fellow 4-Hers and agent for travel.

Texas 4-H Roundup Registration

Texas 4-H is excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2013 Texas 4-H Roundup. Participants can begin registering April 11th through May 11th. After May 11th a late registration fee will be applied to all registrations. Invitational Contest opportunities are available for intermediate aged 4-H youth. Check out the 4-H Roundup Website to learn more about those opportunities. 

Market Poultry Workshop

This workshop provides an excellent opportunity to “hear the experts” and work alongside Texas’ major poultry judges. 

Educational activities include in-depth discussion on:  brooding, management, sanitation and feeding programs and selection and processing methods for broilers, turkeys and roasters.

Also “hands on” practice in early culling and selecting, handling your birds during the show and “putting together” show pens.

4-H Volunteer Conference Registration Scholarships Available

The Texas 4-H Foundation is generously sponsoring registration scholarship to help reduce the cost for volunteers attending the 2013 Texas 4-H Volunteer Conference, scheduled for July 12-14 in Plano. Each scholarship is in the amount of $75, which is half of the conference registration fee.  The online scholarship application will be open until May 1st. Recipients will be notified the first part of May. Applicants are asked to NOT register for the conference until after they have received notification of whether or not they have received a scholarship.

2013 Poultry Institure for Youth



The 2013 Poultry Institute for Youth, sponsored by the Texas A&M University Poultry Science Department and the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, will be held Sunday, June 16 through Tuesday, June 18, 2013 on the Texas A&M University campus in College Station, Texas.  This program gives high school students with an interest in the poultry industry a chance to gain first-hand knowledge.  They will have the opportunity to meet both Texas A&M faculty and Texas poultry industry leaders.  A portion of the institute will also include hands on activities as well as field trips to local commercial poultry companies.  

Students who will be a junior or senior in high school in the Fall of 2013 or have just recently graduated from high school are eligible to attend.  Interested students must complete and submit an application that can be found at http://posc.tamu.edu/files/2012/08/2013-Institute-Application.pdf by Friday, May 3, 2013.  The cost to attend is $50/student (do not submit this with your application).  Lodging and meals are provided.  Students who are selected will receive a confirmation packet after May 17, 2013.
