Rabbit Workshop - October 1st


Upcoming Travis 4-H Events and Activities



Reminders for some upcoming events:
·         Saturday, September 26th, NAMI Walk – We provide the water stations for dogs that come with their owners and there are a lot of dogs in attendance. Please email Cory if attending.

·         Monday, September 28th, County Council Meeting – 6:15 at the Travis County Extension Office

·         Tuesday, September 29th – TCYS Plant Orders due

·         Wednesday, September 30th  - Foods Project Workshop –6:30 pm at the extension office

·         Thursday, October 1st – Rabbit Workshop - 6:30 pm at the extension office

·         Saturday, October 10th  -  be sure sign up on Facebook – This is County Wide project – you all are encouraged to pass this on to your members and be in attendance of this great event recognizing the 100th Anniversary of the Texas Forest Service.

Reminders:
  • Orders are due October 12th to the Extension Office
  • Youth must order at least 25 birds, but no more than 75 per kid
  • Families may cross validate with siblings only
  • Price is $50.00 a box

NAMI Walk - Saturday, September 26th

Each year, Travis County 4-H volunteers to provide the dog watering stations for the walkers/runners who like to bring their pets out to the NAMI Walk.  It is always greatly appreciated by the event organizers and dog owners.

We are usually done around 10:30 - 11:00 am

Travis County 4-H Council - Open to All 4-H Members!



Below is the information about the first county council meeting. Any 4-H member is welcome to join, but they must complete the form at the link below. 

If your club elected an officer to the council delegate position, they will need to complete the form below as well. Be sure to pass this on to those from your club that plan to be part of this group.

Rodeo Austin -Ultimate Calf Scramble

Unlike any other calf scramble program, USC is a one-day tournament in which competitors catch calves in hopes of advancing to the next round. Half of all competitors will receive at least $1,000 for catching a calf. An additional $15,000 will be divided among the 20 competitors who make it to the finals in the Rodeo Arena, with one person receiving a first-place prize amount of $5,000 and the title of Ultimate Scramble Champion. With the USC certificates, winners can purchase animal of choice: market steer, market lamb, market goat, market barrow, breeding heifer or boer goat to bring to the next year's show.

2016 Ultimate Scramble Championship online entries will open October 1, 2015 at 10 a.m. Only ASTs or CEAs may enter participants. Spots will be limited to the first 160 participants (64 girls, 96 boys) to enter online and mail in payment and the required entry collection form. After 160 spots are filled online, entry will be open to alternates. Alternates should not mail in payment or the entry collection form until they are notified by Rodeo Austin of an open spot.

Travis County 4-H Scholarship Workshop - December 3rd

Attention graduating seniors of 2016 - there will be a workshop on the Texas 4-H Foundation Scholarship Application and process on December 3rd. Other 4-H members are welcome to attend, but this will be geared towards those graduating. See below for primary requirements to be eligible to apply:
  • Be an active member of the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program for the current year and at least the two of the three previous years, have a current enrollment with the county Extension Office where applicant resides, and be in good standing with the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program at all levels (county, district, and state)
  • Be scheduled to graduate from a Texas High School (public, private, or home) during the 2015-2016  school year
  • Meet the entrance requirements for the college or university for which formal application has been made
  • Have made formal application to enroll with intent to attend a Texas college or university in the Fall of the year scholarship is awarded. Youth with
    plans or intentions of attending an non-Texas college/university/trade school are not eligible
