Texas 4-H Roundup Registration

Texas 4-H is excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2013 Texas 4-H Roundup. Participants can begin registering April 11th through May 11th. After May 11th a late registration fee will be applied to all registrations. Invitational Contest opportunities are available for intermediate aged 4-H youth. Check out the 4-H Roundup Website to learn more about those opportunities. 

Market Poultry Workshop

When: May 11th 2013 Workshop 8:30-3: pm 

Where: College Station, TX @ Pierce Pavilion 

Registration: Onsite Registration Starts 8am 

This workshop provides an excellent opportunity to “hear the experts” and work alongside Texas’ major poultry judges. 

Educational activities include in-depth discussion on:  brooding, management, sanitation and feeding programs and selection and processing methods for broilers, turkeys and roasters.

Also “hands on” practice in early culling and selecting, handling your birds during the show and “putting together” show pens.

4-H Volunteer Conference Registration Scholarships Available

The Texas 4-H Foundation is generously sponsoring registration scholarship to help reduce the cost for volunteers attending the 2013 Texas 4-H Volunteer Conference, scheduled for July 12-14 in Plano. Each scholarship is in the amount of $75, which is half of the conference registration fee.  The online scholarship application will be open until May 1st. Recipients will be notified the first part of May. Applicants are asked to NOT register for the conference until after they have received notification of whether or not they have received a scholarship.

2013 Poultry Institure for Youth

The 2013 Poultry Institute for Youth, sponsored by the Texas A&M University Poultry Science Department and the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, will be held Sunday, June 16 through Tuesday, June 18, 2013 on the Texas A&M University campus in College Station, Texas.  This program gives high school students with an interest in the poultry industry a chance to gain first-hand knowledge.  They will have the opportunity to meet both Texas A&M faculty and Texas poultry industry leaders.  A portion of the institute will also include hands on activities as well as field trips to local commercial poultry companies.  

Students who will be a junior or senior in high school in the Fall of 2013 or have just recently graduated from high school are eligible to attend.  Interested students must complete and submit an application that can be found at http://posc.tamu.edu/files/2012/08/2013-Institute-Application.pdf by Friday, May 3, 2013.  The cost to attend is $50/student (do not submit this with your application).  Lodging and meals are provided.  Students who are selected will receive a confirmation packet after May 17, 2013. MASH Camp

Information on 4-H MASH Camp is now available, and registration is open on 4-H CONNECT.

MASH camp provides youth an opportunity to learn about higher education and career opportunities in the medical, safety and health career fields. During the three-day camp, youth will participate in activities with the Texas A&M Health Science Center, Texas A&M Research Labs, Texas A&M Department of Health & Kinesiology, AgriLife Extension's Passenger Safety Team and law enforcement/first responders. The camp is open to youth in 7th to 11th grades.

2013 County Camp at the Texas 4-H Conference Center

County Camp programs at the Texas 4-H Conference Center are designed to provide an opportunity for youth to experience summer camp while enjoying the advantage of meeting youth from across the state. Participants will enjoy kayaking, swimming, the climbing wall, environmental education, drama, riflery, archery, arts and crafts, games, dancing and special events!  Youth who have completed second through eleventh grade are eligible.

County groups are housed together, by gender, in the dormitories with their Adult Chaperones. Youth are assigned to co-ed groups based on their age, for the daily educational activities.

Travis County will attend county camp July 10-13, 2013
Cost is: $225 for youth and $105 for chaperones

Earn Money For Your 4-H Club

The Texas 4-H Foundation is pleased to announce they will host during the 2013 Texas 4-H Roundup the "I Support the Clover"  Silent Auction.  The Trustees coordinated this effort during the 2010 and 2011 4-H Roundup but last year held the "Rodeo Extravaganza Raffle" instead.  This year they have opted to bring back the auction.  The Foundation Trustees would like provide an opportunity for county 4-H programs to earn funds from this event, as well this year. 

The Top 10 items donated by County 4-H Programs receiving the highest bid amounts, as compared to the other county donated items, will be awarded as follows:

First Place 100%

Second Place 75%

Third through Six Place 50%

Sixth through Tenth Place 25%

Visit our website at  http://texas4hfoundation.org/silentauction/ to download the item donation forms.  We ask that you complete this form, and submit it along with any additional supporting materials for the items your county plans to donate (ie. brochure from hunt, specs from electronic items, etc).  This information will be used to prepare the website page which will be developed to promote the items prior to Roundup.  We ask that your county notify us no later than Friday, April 5th with the information regarding the donated item(s), photo of the item(s), etc.  All items need to be shipped to our office in College Station by Friday, May 24th.  If you chose to bring the item(s) to Roundup, note that the Foundation plans to open the Auction Tables on Monday during the Scholarship Assembly.  The sooner your item goes on display the more time for bidding.
