Spots still remaining for
inaugural class of Texas 4-H Water Ambassadors! Deadline for applying is Monday
May 15.
The Texas 4-H Water Ambassadors Program provides high
school age 4-H members and youth an opportunity to gain advanced knowledge and
practice leadership skills related to the science, technology, engineering, and
management of water in Texas. Through an application process, high-school
age youth (32) are selected to participate in an advanced level of education and
training via a summer 4-H2O Youth Leadership Academy experience, continuing
education opportunities, and mentor-ship by individuals in the water industry
and in academia. In return, Water Ambassadors are required to complete a
minimal level of service credit over the next 12 months, which may include
delivering water education at local 4-H clubs, schools, fairs, and community
events.
Who is eligible to apply? Youth entering 9th,
10th, and 11th grades for the 2017-2018 school year.
How many youth will be selected? 32 youth will be
selected for the first class of Water Ambassadors.
What is the summer 4-H2O Youth Leadership Academy? The
Leadership Academy will include a tour of Texas, allowing youth to experience
its vast diversity of water supplies and demands, sensitive ecosystems, water
quality concerns, as well as the applied research and technologies employed to
conserve this valued resource. Ambassadors will gain insight into water law,
policy, planning, and management as they interact with representatives from
state water agencies, educators, policy-makers, and water resource managers.
Youth will form an appreciation for and broadened perspective of the importance
of water to support the quality of life and economic needs of rural and urban
communities alike. Pick-up and drop off will be in Austin. Tentative
dates for the Academy are July 8 – July 15.
How do I apply? On-line applications are now being
accepted. An information brochure, application instructions, and link to the

Is there a registration fee? There is no cost to
apply. However, if selected, the program registration fee is $250.
What is the deadline to apply? The application
deadline is May 15.
