Hunter Safety Camp



2015 4-H Hunters Safety Camp. This camp allows youth to have a hands on opportunity and become educated about proper hunting etiquette, gun safety, hunting regulation, and each participant can receive their hunter’s safety certificate.

Important Information for this Year:
The camp will be set up different due to construction at the Game Warden Training Center. Housing for youth will be in 2 locations at the center; girls will be in a classroom and boys will be in the gym (we will turn both settings into dorms). Adult chaperones will be provided a mattress in each of the locations but youth must bring bedding no larger than twin size (blowup mattress, etc.).

The camp will be on October 30th – November 1st at the Game Warden Training Center. Participants will arrive on Friday at 7:30P.M. and depart on Sunday at 3:00P.M..
  • Participants must be an enrolled 4-H member for the 2015 – 2016 year
  • Age: 12 years old and up
  • Cost: $50
  • We will only be able to take 25 4-H members this year
  • Register by October 23rd

If any of your registered adult volunteers would like to help chaperone the camp please have them contact me. There is no charge for them to come.
  • They must be Registered Volunteers in their county for 2015 – 2016  (have a Background Check)
  • Each chaperone must complete the Child Protection Management course on 4-H Connect
  • We are needing 1 Female Chaperone and 1 Male Chaperone

We’re growing!! There is a new competition category in the 2016 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo™ Youth Horticulture competition! There is a photography contest included with the horticulture event.

There is a registration link to indicate who is coming, the category and age division. We are not accepting paper registration forms, everyone will need to register on the link ASAP so they will know how many to prepare for.

Ring A Judge: Patrick Padgett
Ring B Judge: Jim Missildine

$15 entry fee per ring.  Must enter Ring A to participate in Ring B
Showmanship: $5 per Exhibitor.  Pay at gate.  Must enter both rings in order to participate.

Prizes will be awarded to the top lambs and goats.

Southdowns, Finewools, Crosses, Medium Wools, and Dorpers –whethers or ewes Welcome!!
Goats: Market whethers or nannies welcome!!
Concession stand available.

General Information:  Check-in must be completed by 8:15.  Weights will be done by show officials.  No minimum or maximum weights.  No electricity provided.  Trailer/Cage Show (no pens provided).  All animals must be in good health.

D-8 Shooting sports Coach Training




We’re pleased to announce that District 8 4-H will be hosting a Shooting Sports Coach Certification Training for Archery, Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun in Stephenville on November 14-15, 2015.

This training is open to any potential coaches across the state.
  • Registration will be conducted through 4‐H Connect.
  • Look for 2015 D8 4-H Shooting Sports Coach Certification Training – Stephenville
  • Registration is now open and closes October 30, 2015.
  • Please pay close attention to the deadline!
  • Cost is $120

Participants MUST have completed and passed the Background Check PRIOR to registering for the event, so if they have not completed this, they should do so IMMEDIATELY! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Additional details:
  • Registration will cover meals and course materials.
  • Only one discipline certification (archery, pistol, rifle, or shotgun) is obtainable per participant per training.
  • Lodging will not be provided for registrants.
  • Event will begin at 8:00am on Saturday, November 14 and tentatively end at noon on Sunday, November 15, 2015.
  • Tentative schedule, what to bring list, and release forms can be found on the website. Additional details will be sent to those that register.
