State Livestock Ambassador Applications are Open - Due 5/15/19

The Texas 4-H Livestock Ambassador Program is coming off another groundbreaking year. In June 2018, 20 Ambassadors boarded a plane in Houston departing to South America to expand the worldviews of exceptional leaders in agriculture. Ambassadors engaged a valuable study abroad experience in the agriculturally-rich country of Argentina. With visits to family farms, historic ranches, feedlot tours and various production facilities, Ambassadors were able to immerse themselves in South America’s agricultural production systems. Buckles on the Bosque Livestock Show to be held in Clifton, Texas on April 20, 2019

Opportunity for 4-Hers to Experience and Explore Agriculture on the Y.A.L.L Tour!

The members of the 2019 Youth Agriculture Lifetime Leadership (Y.A.L.L.) Board would like to personally invite you to come experience a life-changing event.

This youth learning experience is one that is undoubtedly most practical in terms of its goals. Participants from across the State of Texas commit and dedicate six days and five nights to understand production agriculture and what it takes to feed this country. Throughout this experience they learn about the dynamics of the agricultural industry, including: horticulture, beef cattle, problem solving, marketing, finance, education, leadership, and more. At the completion of their time invested, the participants, as producers, have the opportunity to defend every decision making process throughout each learning experience via an oral presentation. This allows them a chance to advocate and support practices utilized in our advancing agriculture.

Year after year, we observe that this Y.A.L.L. experience has made a lasting impact on young peoples’ futures. We believe this Youth Agriculture Lifetime Leadership model could grow and adapt towards extra opportunities including, but not limited to the following: additional leadership opportunities, broadening educational perspectives, and increasing the real world application prospect to further enhance the knowledge base of all youth involved.

The tour will depart from the Kerr County Extension office in Kerrville on July 14th and return to the Kerr County Extension office on July 19th. The cost to the participants for the 6 days is $200 each with a $100 deposit submitted with the application. 4-H members that have a strong interest in production agriculture who are outgoing high school freshmen through outgoing seniors are invited to apply and 30 youth will be selected. Application deadline is April 1, 2019. Applicants will be notified of their selection in to the program by May 1, with the remaining balance being due May 30th.
