New Livestock Skill-a-thon Contest - New at the 2016 Texas 4-H Roundup



Texas 4-H is excited to announce the rules and resource information for the Texas 4-H Livestock Skill-a-thon contest.  This is a NEW contest for the 2016 Texas 4-H Roundup.  This year we are offering the contest as an Invitational Contest open to both Intermediate and Senior age 4-H members.  The first place senior level team qualifies to advance to the 2016 National 4-H Livestock Skill-a-thon contest at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville, KY

OBJECTIVE
The Livestock Skill-a-thon contest tests a 4-H member’s knowledge and comprehension of animal science and livestock management practices.  The contest provides an opportunity for youth to gain and develop production livestock skills and life skills through a competitive environment.

There is a District 10 Contest set for  February 9th in Kerrville ( be there by 9:00 am). Registration for this contest starts on January 5th and ends on January 19th and must be completed on 4-H Connect (https://texas.4honline.com/Login.aspx?403D4079444C6D387A6E595A2F6F3D)


  • Teams are made up of 3-4 youth and must fall under the same age division. Junior aged members may move up to compete on an Intermediate team, but no one may move down and younger members may not move up to compete on the senior team.

  • Each team member must be registered on Connect by the deadline and will need to include the members of their teammates. ($10.00 per team member to register)
  • A county practice/contest will be held based on the registration numbers. If Travis County has youth that want to participate in the contest, we want to provide you with that learning experience at the county level, but that will be determined based on who registers for district.

2016 Beekeeping Essay Contest



The 2016 Beekeeping Essay Contest theme has been announced.  This year’s topic is “Bees and Pollination. How Important is it?”

The deadline for submission to the Texas 4-H office is Friday, January 8, 2016

Submissions will only be accepted electronically. The essay, along with the certification form, should be uploaded to FormSite at https://fs4.formsite.com/state4h/2016BeekeepingEssay/index.html

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners from Texas 4-H:
·       1st Place: $300.00
·       2nd Place: $200.00
·       3rd Place: $100.00
The first place essay will advance to the national contest representing Texas 4-H.

Re-Fashion Retreat - January 15-17, 2016



Join us for Re-Fashion Retreat at the Texas 4-H Conference Center! This year’s program will feature sessions on Duds to Dazzle, Fashion Storyboard, arm knitting, felt needleworking, and much more. This is a family style camp, meaning that each youth must have an adult accompany them throughout the program.

D-11 Shooting Sports Coaches Training

D-11 is pleased to announce the District 11 Shooting Sports Coaches’ Training held January 9-10 in Victoria, TX at the Victoria County 4-H Activity Center. Please see the attached information for details.

·         Registration will be through 4-H Connect. Its open STATEWIDE to all volunteers.
o   Registration will be November 6 – December 18.  Late registration is available for an additional $25 December 19 – January 4th.

·         Registration fee is $120.

2016 Teen Retreat - January 8-10

Join us for Teen Retreat January 8-10 at the Texas 4-H Conference Center. This year’s program includes awesome educational sessions, including STEM, Share the Fun, Wildlife, and Leadership. We will also have a Polar Bear Plunge and, of course, nightly 4-H dances! Registration is now open at texas4hcenter.tamu.edu or click the link on our Facebook page. Cost is $115/youth, $85/adults and includes lodging and meals. Registration is open thru December 31st. Check-in will start at 7 pm on Jan. 8th and the retreat will conclude at 10 am on Jan. 10th.

Consumer Decision Making Contest - December 10th
