2012 Texas 4-H Congress

Texas 4-H Congress is the premiere citizenship and leadership experience for Texas 4-H members between the ages of 15 and 18. Held on the even numbers years in the Texas State Capitol, Texas 4-H Congress allows 4-H members to experience the law making process first hand by writing, submitting, and then serving as a member of the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Press, or as a Lobbyist. From these roles, the 4-H members determine the fate of each bill submitted over the four day event.

School Tour Guides - Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo

The school tours committee for the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo is looking for youth ages 14 and up to serve as guides for the schools that will be touring the grounds. The tours will take place during the week of March 19-23. Tour Guides are expected to arrive on the grounds around 8:15 a.m. and will end sometime after1:30 or so. Email Cory (cmtalley@ag.tamu.edu) if you are interested in assisting with this leadership opportunity. All those participating will need to submit an academic eligibility form that will be posted on travis4h.com in February.

Upon emailing, be sure to indicate the day(s) you intend to volunteer.

Recipe Rally

In the 4-H Recipe Rally, intermediate and senior 4-H members are challenged with selecting, creating, and/or altering a recipe and submitting a video, via YouTube. The video should highlight the 4-H member demonstrating the preparation of the recipe while also highlighting nutrients, food safety practices, serving size and cost analysis, as well as their inspiration for selection or creation of the recipe. The theme for the 2012 contest is “Summer Snacks.”

Deep In The Heart Movie - Release Date!

DEEP IN THE HEART - "Official Release Date" in "ALL TEXAS CINEMARK THEATERS" is February 17th. 

"Deep in the Heart" reveals the true-life story of Mr. Richard "Dick" Wallrath. No one person has ever given more financially to the Texas 4-H and Texas FFA Scholarship Programs than Dick Wallrath. He has also provided tremendous financial assistance to 4-H and FFA members through major livestock show premium auctions.  

We sincerely request that our Extension and 4-H Family support this emotion-packed documentary of Dick's life for two reasons. First, it could have an impact on your own life. And secondly, because of Mr. Wallrath’s continued generosity, a portion of all ticket sales will go to both Texas 4-H and Texas FFA to further strengthen their much needed scholarship programs.  

Please promote the importance of the opening weekend of February 17^th.  The success of this opening weekend will dictate their plan for nationwide release.  Of course, the more success the movie has, the more funds are contributed to Texas 4-H and Texas FFA.
