2009 Annual Achievement Banquet

Don't forget about the awards forms that all 4-H'ers should be completing to receive their much deserved recognition.

You should be soon be receiving a postcard in the mail as a reminder.

Youth Leadership Program (Public Speaking)

This is a three-day workshop dedicated to helping youth with their public speaking skills. The Toastmasters curriculum is used to aid participants in becoming more comfortable with impromptu speaking, and preparing, delivering, and evaluating speeches. A local Toastmaster will serve as the facilitator for the workshop. There is no fee for the workshop itself, but kids will be responsible for paying for their lunches. More information will be available later.

Dates: June 15 - 17
Location: Goodwill Community Center (I 35 and 183)
Age Requirement: 12 - 18 years old
Start Time: 9:00 a.m. and End Time: 4:00 p.m.
A graduation ceremony will be held on Wednesday night. Location to be determined.

4-H Recordbooks


Recordbook Workday - Monday, June 8, 2009
Come to the Extension Office anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to get help with your recordbooks. Bring your laptops, flash drives, hard copies (whatever you already have).

This is not a formal workshop - this is set up as a help session.

Recordbooks are due to the Extension office by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2009. (please remember that our office closes at 5:00 so plan to have your book in early).

Food Challenge Workshop

A new and exciting 4-H contest is being added in the 2009-2010 4-H year. Be one of the first in the county to take part in this hands on experience. The workshop is being held in Seguin.

Consumer Decision Making Project

Open to all 4-H aged youth and adults!!!

Participants will learn the ins and outs of this project. A life long skill with some potential scholarship opportunities. Check out the flyer on travis4h.com

District 10 Mega Meeting

A district wide event open to all youth and adults. This is a great opportunity for youth to meet fellow 4-H members and take part in a district wide event. It will take place in Kerrville on Saturday, August 29, 2009. Youth will participate in an educational activity related to 4-H projects. A dance has been added this year.

Meeting begins at 12:00 noon at Schreiner University
Cost: full time registration- $20.00 per participant (youth and adults) (includes dinner and dance)
part time registration - $8.00 per participant (does not include dinner and dance)

If you are interested in attending, please sign up with John and pay the fee by August 20th. Cory is taking a van and will take up to 13 youth. If youth want to attend, they must notify John so he can put their name on the list.

4-H Club Scrapbooks

All Club Scrapbooks are due: August 3, 2009 to the Extension Office

Items you should consider including:
Creativity, Club Information, Member Information, Projects/Activities, Group Photo, Individual Photos/Member pages, club goals, greatest accomplishments, proudest moments,
Clover Kids.

County Camp at Lake Brownwood

What is County Camp? County Camp allows counties to send youth of all ages (9-18) to camp at the 4-H Conference Center at one time, whereas Prime Time is age specific. County groups are housed together in the dorms by gender (Boys in boys dorms, girl in girls dorms). Campers will experience team-building and communication skills development through their participation in such programs as Challenge Course activities, canoeing, rifle, archery, drama, swimming, dance, and other activities.

Travis County attends: July 13 (3:00 pm) to July 16 (11:00 am) Cost: $205.00
Each participant will be reimbursed $100.00 upon returning from camp.

Participants will need to register via 4-H Connect to attend:
4-H Connect Login. Must be registered by June 16, 2009

Cory will be attending this camp.

Award Opportunities - Due: June 30, 2009

Award applications have been posted to the travis4h.com website under the "forms" link. This will allow you the opportunity to see what the requirements are for the awards and know what else you may need to do to be eligible to apply.

State Fair of Texas - Contest Opportunities

Although the State Fair of Texas in Dallas is three hours away, there are opportunities available for youth and adults. Take a look at their premium book online to see what is available for your age range and if projects can be mailed in or you must deliver the day of. There some cooking contests as well as photography. Make it a family or club event.

Richland 4-H is Stocking the Shelves


Richland 4-H members contributed to the District 10 Community Service Project, Filling the Shelves. All items donated are being sent to the Texas 4-H Conference Center in Brownwood. Items will be used to help stock the nurse's station. Other items donated will be used for the craft's and games closets.

Banquet Committee Meeting

Attention 4-H Members ...If you are looking for more leadership opportunities, join the 4-H Banquet Committee. A meeting will be held on Monday, June 15th at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. Items of discussion will be; meal to be served, delegation of duties for banquet, set up and remaining decorations. This is open to youth and adults. We have some tasks which will need to be completed by senior aged 4-H members and adults.

Gold Star, Silver Star and Bronze Star Award Applications

The Gold Star Award is the highest county achievement award and will be awarded only once in a member’s 4-H career. Counties have award quotas based on the number of senior 4-H members. The award is presented to the most deserving young people without regard to sex.

Bronze Star and Silver Star Awards
Purpose to recognize achievement by 4-H members 9 to 11 (Bronze) or 12-14 (Silver) years of age at the time of application. A member may receive the award only once. Number to be awarded is based on judges discretion.(application and requirements are posted on the travis4h.com website.)

Adult Volunteer Leader AwardAn new award to recognize volunteer leaders for their service and contributions was added last year. The leader must be someone the Extension Office has listed as a screened volunteer leader through the Texas 4-H and Youth Development - Youth Protection Standards Program. If you have questions regarding a potential nominee, please contact us at the office.

County Recordbook Judging

Location: Travis County East Facility (6011 Blue Blue Road, Austin)

Lunch will be provided!!

We will be teaming up with Caldwell County this year. This is a great opportunity to learn more about recordbooks, the judging process and gain new ideas and opinions.

Registration will be conducted on 4-H Connect April 27-May 13, 2009.

$170 per delegate This includes all meals and snacks beginning with the lunch on Monday and ending with breakfast on Wednesday, insurance and facility use at the 4-H Conference Center.
Travis 4-H pays 50% of this trip. 4-H members are required to pay the full amount and after returning, participants will receive a check request form to submit for the $85.00 return.
