Educational Workshops at Texas 4-H Roundup

Texas 4-H Roundup is the state wide event for senior aged (14 and up) 4-H members. In most cases, 4-H members must have competed at county and district contest to move up to compete at the state level contests. However, there are some educational workshops available for members who were not able to participate in the qualifying contests. If you are interested in seeing what Texas 4-H Roundup is all about, this is a great way to learn.

Workshops being offered for 2009:
  • Teens in the Drive Seat - a program offered to help teens learn the importance of driver safety.
  • 4-H Food Challenge - an interactive competition
  • Vet Science Skill-A-Thon - a competitive event testing kids knowledge related to veterinary science
This is a great learning experience. For those interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact Cory to find out additional details.

Club Promotion at Pioneer Farms

"The Pioneer Farms 4-H Club would like to invite other Travis County 4-H Clubs to join them out at Pioneer Farms on Friday, March 20th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the annual Homeschool Day at Pioneer Farms. For the past 4 years the PF 4-H Club has held a booth at these homeschool day (and other) events whereby club members show-case projects, do demonstrations, recruit new members, and generally promote 4-H. There are anywhere between 300 and 1000 guests who attend these homeschool day events, and they come from within a 2-hour radius of Austin. Feel free to join Pioneer Farms 4-H Club in setting up a tent/booth, demonstrating, recruiting, promoting, and even fundraising for your clubs (no vendor fees). To RSVP and/or for further information, please contact Angela Walters at cordelia_78681@sbcglobal.net. Directions to Pioneer Farms can be found at www.pioneerfarms.org. We hope you can join us!"

Opportunities at Pioneer Farms

On Saturday, May 2, 1p-5p, Pioneer Farms is inviting 4-H clubs to set up informational booths or vendor booths as fund raisers for your club. Pioneer Farms is waiving all vendor fees and you may keep 100% of all proceeds.

Pioneer Farms also provides opportunity for community service projects. There are plenty of group projects to be found as well as individual projects. You may volunteer anywhere from 4 hrs per week to 4 hrs per year, depending upon what best suits your schedule, your needs, and your interests. You may volunteer in costume and assist with historic demonstrations and recreations or in your club t-shirt during our special events to help with crafts and games. You may volunteer to assist with agricultural projects or livestock projects on a regular basis or you may find something you can do without even being at Pioneer Farms. We also need off site help with craft prep, sewing, etc. Pioneer Farms is sure to have something to meet the community service needs of both individuals and clubs.
