#GivingTuesday to Texas 4-H

Tomorrow Texas 4-H will be participating in #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving back!

The Texas 4-H Foundation has a new website, which includes a new online giving system: https://texas4hfoundation.org/give. This will be the main way we encourage people to give. #GivingTuesday will mainly be promoted through social media, and we need your help! We hope you will not only share Texas 4-H Facebook posts, like Instagram pictures and retweet, but also share the impact of 4-H in your life.

Travis County 4-H Scholarship Workshop - December 3rd

Attention graduating seniors of 2016 - there will be a workshop on the Texas 4-H Foundation Scholarship Application and process on December 3rd. Other 4-H members are welcome to attend, but this will be geared towards those graduating. See below for primary requirements to be eligible to apply:
  • Be an active member of the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program for the current year and at least the two of the three previous years, have a current enrollment with the county Extension Office where applicant resides, and be in good standing with the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program at all levels (county, district, and state)
  • Be scheduled to graduate from a Texas High School (public, private, or home) during the 2015-2016  school year
  • Meet the entrance requirements for the college or university for which formal application has been made
  • Have made formal application to enroll with intent to attend a Texas college or university in the Fall of the year scholarship is awarded. Youth with
    plans or intentions of attending an non-Texas college/university/trade school are not eligible

D-9 Invitational Quiz Bowl Competition - January 9th


Please share this flyer with your 4-H Quiz Bowl Teams.  District 9 4-H is hosting an invitational Quiz Bowl Competition on January 9, 2016 at the Walker County Storm Shelter in Huntsville Tx.

The contest will include Intermediate and Senior age categories in Beef, Horse, Swine and Food & Nutrition.  There will be a $200 overall 1st place winner in each subject area.  There will also be prizes for winners within age groups.

The entry fee is $40 per team if submitted by January 1, 2016 on 4-H Connect.  The contest is not limited to 4-H members but pre-entry will need to be done by an adult with a 4-H Connect account.  The entry process is located under the adult profile on 4-H Connect.  Late, and onsite entry is $60/ team.

The contest will follow Texas 4-H Quiz Bowl Rules and use the Texas 4-H Quiz Bowl reference lists.

District 10 Nutrition Quiz Bowl - February 9th - Kerrville


For any youth wanting to participate in the D-10 Nutrition Quiz Bowl, information can be found below.

Registration will be conducted on 4-H Connect: Must be a team of 3-4 members

There will be three age divisions for the District 10 Nutrition Quiz Bowl Contest. 4-H’ers age will
be determined based on their grade as of August 31, 2015.
•    Juniors – 3rd Grade (and 8 years old) – 5th Grade
•    Intermediates – 6th – 8th Grade
•    Seniors – 9th- 12th Grade (has not surpassed their 18th birthday as of August 31, 2015)



DISTRICT CONTEST RESOURCES:
This contest helps participants increase their knowledge of basic nutrition, consumer information,
food and kitchen safety, food preparation skills and storage, and nutrition and health. This
contest will follow the rules and procedures listed in the Texas 4-H Quiz Bowl Study Guide, 4-H
3-2.030.  The State 4-H Food & Nutrition Quiz Bowl Study Guide should be utilized for support information. These documents will be released by the beginning of September and will be posted at this website. If there are significant changes from the State FDRM unit related to NQB, we will update this letter and re-send to the counties after we receive the information.

National 4-H Conference


2016 School Tour Guides the San Antonio Livestock Show

4-H youth in the 9-12 grades may volunteer to serve as a school tour guide at the San Antonio Livestock Show. Youth will need to commit their entire day to serving in this leadership role and must be academically eligible to be excused from school in February.  Youth must register for their day of choice by December 10th. Once you sign up, you are fully committed, so be sure to check your schedule before signing up.

D-3 Shooting Sports Coach Training



District 3 4-H will be hosting a Shooting Sports Coach Certification Training for Archery, Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun in Wichita Falls on December 12-13, 2015.


See the attached flyers, letters and D3 website for more details. 
This training is open to any potential coaches across the state.
•          Registration will be conducted through 4‐H Connect.
•          Look for Wichita Falls 2015 District 3 4-H Shooting Sports Training - Wichita Falls
•          Registration will open next week (first week of November)
•          Please pay close attention to the deadline! (December 1st)
•          Cost is $120

Participants MUST have completed and passed the Background Check PRIOR to registering for the event, so if they have not completed this, they should do so IMMEDIATELY! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Additional details:
•          Registration will cover meals and course materials.
•          Only one discipline certification (archery, pistol, rifle, or shotgun) is obtainable per participant per training.
•          Lodging will not be provided for registrants.
•          Event will begin at 8:00am on Saturday, December 12, 2015 and tentatively end at noon on Sunday, December 13, 2015.
•          Tentative schedule, what to bring list, and release forms can be found on the website. Additional details will be sent to those that register.

Assistant Coach-Adult (age 18-20)
Adult Leader less than 21 years of age seeking certification as an Assistant Shooting Sports Coach. - $120
Assistant Coach-Youth (age 14-18)
Youth 4-H member seeking certification as an Assistant Shooting Sports Coach. Must be accompanied to training by a previously certified Shooting Sports Coach OR an Adult Leader/Extension Employee participating in this training. Must be 14 years of age or older by September 1 of current 4-H year. - $120
Extension Employee
Seeking training and Shooting Sports Coach certification. May also accompany an Assistant Coach Candidate (who is under the age of 18). MUST BE MINIMUM 21 YEARS OF AGE TO BECOME A CERTIFIED SHOOTING SPORTS COACH - No Charge
Previously Certified Coach-ONLY Accompanying a youth Assistant Coach Candidate (under the age of 18).

Not seeking certification. Must be a previously certified Texas 4-H Shooting Sports Coach, AND must ONLY be participating in this training to accompany an Assistant Coach Candidate (who is under the age of 18). - No Charge

New Robotics Contest for San Antonio Livestock Show



Agrobotics Challenge
This exciting new contest is designed to inspire young people and develop an early interest in robotics engineering and technology with an agricultural focus. This is a team competition for Texas 4-H and FFA members.  This fun challenge will test the construction skills and proficiency of the youth.  The general public is invited to witness the robots in action during the finals of the Agrobotics Challenge. For more information visit the Agrobotics Challenge section of the 2016 Livestock Premium List. Entries for the 2016 Agrobotics Challenge must be submitted through the Online Entry System.

If interested, you need to talk with Cory by November 19th.

Dog Project Validation




The Texas 4-H Dog Show will be at the Bell County Expo in Belton, Texas on July 8-10, 2016. 4-H Dog projects must be validated by January 10, 2016 to be eligible to enter.   The validation system is now open on 4-H Connect.

At the link below, the detailed instructions for validating dogs through 4-H Connect can be found.  They will log into their 4-H profile, click on the Animal tab and fill out the information.  There may be a few that need help uploading photos.  There is no cost for Dog Validation at this time and as usual we encourage members to validate all the dogs they might be eligible to show.

Teen Retreat - January 8-10, 2016



Join us for Teen Retreat January 8-10 at the Texas 4-H Conference Center. This year’s program includes awesome educational sessions, including STEM, Share the Fun, Wildlife, and Leadership. We will also have a Polar Bear Plunge and, of course, nightly 4-H dances! Registration is now open at texas4hcenter.tamu.edu or click the link on our Facebook page. Cost is $115/youth, $85/adults and includes lodging and meals. Registration is open thru December 31st. Check-in will start at 7 pm on Jan. 8th and the retreat will conclude at 10 am on Jan. 10th
