Host Families Needed



Don't miss this great opportunity to host a youth from Japan and let them see Texas hospitality at its finest. You are not required to do anything out of the ordinary, just consider this guest as 'one of the family' and allow them to participate in daily family happenings. Most of the Japanese delegation are fluent in the English language.   

Host dates are July 26 through August 22, 2014   

The following delegates are still looking for a Texas host family.  
  • Hana, female age 12 - she likes basketball, chocolate ice cream, camping, cooking and math; she is talkative and values kindness.      
  • Yoshinaga, male age 13 - he likes drawing and to do papercrafts, enjoys karate and piano and other music, he is allergic to cats and dogs and values a sense of humor.     
  • Akito, male age 12 - he likes tennis, soccer, baseball, swimming and basketball; he would like to ride a horse or care for animals, even work on a farm. He has an allergy to dogs and cats.      
  • Rinko, female age 12 - she likes animals, reading, musical theatre, music and cooking; horseback riding, camping and sports are other favorites.      
  • Kagaho, female age 13 - likes being outdoors but also enjoys shopping, cooking, singing and music in general.      
  • Ayaka, female age 12 - likes piano, swimming, photography, amusement parks; would like to ride a horse or work on a farm.      
  • Sayaka, female age 12 - likes baskbetball, music, running, horseback riding, cooking and staying busy.     
  • Hiyori, female age 12 - likes dogs, animals, hip hop dancing, cooking and wants to be busy. Would like to ride a horse or work on a farm.

Starting Sunday, Texas 4-H takes over Austin with the 2014 Texas 4-H Congress.  You can stay up to date with the latest news and updates from Congress on-line and through social media. 

From live video streams of committee meetings, general sessions, and public hearings, to daily newspapers, photo post, and social media post (Twitter using the hashtag #2014tx4hcongress and Facebook).  Something new for 2014 will be a daily video news cast produced by the Texas 4-H Tech Team and the Press Corp posted in the evenings!

Southern Region Teen Leadership Conference

The Southern Region Teen Leadership Forum is the first-of-its-kind, multi-state 4-H conference created to bring together 4-H teens and adults to empower and inspire them to make a positive change across the southern region through youth-adult partnerships.

Letter Writing Contest - Scholarship Opportunity



CONGRESSIONAL LETTER WRITING CONTEST - WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMAN AND WIN A SCHOLARSHIP.

The American Stewards of Liberty, Capital Farm Credit, and Texas Sheep and Goat Raiser's Auxiliary are sponsoring a Letter Writing Contest to encourage young people to take an interest in writing members of Congress.  The contest is open to American students/citizens who are junior or seniors in high school in the fall of 2014 or plan to enroll in any college or University in the 2015 school year.  Current college students are eligible to enter and must have graduated from a Texas high school. Home schoolers are welcome.  This contest is for Texas residents only.

Deadline is November 4, 2014 and the prizes are:  1st - $1,000, 2nd - $750, and 3rd - $500

The topic will involve Private Property Rights.

2014-2015 Food Show Theme

As the 4-H year is slowly coming to an end over the next month and half, it is time to start thinking about 4-H events and activities for the 2014-2015 year. For those interested in the Food Show, the new theme is listed below:

The theme for the 2015 Food Show is “Bringing Texas to the Table.” This gives you an opportunity to pick your favorite dish which features Texas ingredients. If local, Texas grown and produced foods
are available and economical, include them in your dish. Otherwise, use items that represent Texas foods such as pecans grown elsewhere. Good luck and enjoy!
