Community Service - Fleece Tie Blankets for Military Program

4-H members needed to help put together some fleece tie blankets for the military program. Starting at 4:30 pm at the Extension office on September 11th. Email Cory (cmtalley@ag.tamu.edu) by September 9th if you will be there to help.

Quality Counts Test

Attention to 4-H and FFA members who plan to exhibit livestock for 2013-2014, this is a reminder about the Quality Counts Test. If you are new to showing, you will need to go the link below and take the test. If you are moving from the 8th grade to the 9th, you will need to take the senior level test.

An opportunity to learn about the Philips Corporation and gain insight in college and career opportunities from engineers, marketing managers, sales associates and tour the facility.

Age Limit: Youth must be entering 7th grade - 12th grade
Cost: FREE
Time: 8:30 am - 12:00 noon
Registration - Limited to 50

Photography Contest Rules - Senior 4-H Members Only

District 10 4-H Conference

The 2013 District 10 4-H Conference will be held Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Kerrville Church of Christ in Kerrville, Texas. This conference will feature four (4) rotating sessions for both youth and adults. Each person can attend two rotations. These sessions will offer various training on available contests, scholarship opportunities, public speaking methods, and much more.

Following the morning sessions, all District 10 Gold Star Recipients will be honored with the D-10 Gold Star Recognition Luncheon, along with the District 10 Volunteer Awards.

At the conclusion of the Luncheon, we will begin the District 10 4-H Council Meeting.
Light Lunch will be provided for all registrants.

There will be a registration fee of $20 per person when registering by August 16th with late registration being $25.

Who should attend? EVERYONE!!! The event is open to all 4-H members, volunteers, parents, and Extension agents. There’s something for everyone so plan now to register and attend!

2013 Livestock Extravagana - August 17th

Want to learn more about your 4-H or FFA livestock project? How about being a better showman in the ring? Then make plans to attend the Livestock Extravaganza! Educational topics would include selection, housing, feeding, health maintenance, record keeping, showmanship, and so much more! Feel free to bring your animal projects.

Location: Buda VoAg Complex in Hays County
Registration is $15.00 (refreshments included)
Attendees will take home a resource book with information on the 6 species

Lamb and Goat Tags - 2014 Shows

If you plan to exhibit market lambs and/or goats or breeding sheep at the Travis County Youth Show or at any of the major shows in the spring, you will need to purchase lamb and goat tags. Tag orders are due to the County Extension Office by August 22nd. Tags are $12.00 each this year. The order form may be found on the following link:

Nutrition Quiz Bowl - Study Guides Available

The 2013 Food and Nutrition Quiz Bowl Study Guide has been released and is available online at http://fcs.tamu.edu/youth/index.php.

The study guide provides a list of references youth should study in order to adequately prepare to compete in the quiz bowl contest. Example questions are also included to help 4-H members study for the contest but are in no way designed to serve as the list of questions that will be used in the contest. Questions will be based on the concepts and objectives outlined in the guide. Teams and coaches should consult the references listed in the study guide to address the identified objectives.
